Biochar and the Circular Carbon Economy - a CPD
In April 2025, the B4C/CASCADE Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training will bring together educators, industry experts, and practitioners in Göttingen, Germany, to explore biochar’s role in sustainability and the circular carbon economy (CCE). The training programme is one week long and is designed to bridge the gap between research and practical application, making sure that biochar knowledge and innovations are effectively integrated into vocational education, agriculture, construction, and environmental management.
As part of the CASCADE project, this initiative highlights the importance of biochar in carbon sequestration, resource efficiency, and climate resilience. By fostering cross-sectoral collaboration, the training aims to equip participants with practical skills and applied knowledge to implement biochar solutions in diverse professional settings.

What to Expect:
Key Highlights of the Training – Hands-on Learning & Expert Insights
Participants will get stuck into interactive workshops and thematic input sessions, covering:
- Biochar production & application – from raw biomass to carbon-rich materials
- The role of biochar in sustainable land use – improving soil health & carbon storage
- Integration into construction & infrastructure – biochar in building materials
- The future of carbon-negative solutions – policy, research, and industry trends
This training combines expert knowledge with practical experimentation to give you a good overall understanding of biochar’s potential and its application within vocational education and industry.
Excursions to Biochar Innovation Hubs
One of the programme’s key features is a guided visit to the Biochar Techlab at the University of Kassel, where participants will:
- Observe pyrolysis in action and understand its environmental benefits
- Explore cutting-edge applications, including biochar in urban infrastructure
- Engage in hands-on biochar experiments and pre-treatment techniques
- Meet local experts and researchers driving biochar innovation
These site visits will provide valuable insights into the real-world applications of biochar, reinforcing the training’s emphasis on practical implementation and impact-driven learning.
Networking & Cross-Sector Collaboration
The CPD training will bring together experts from across Europe, including:
- Vocational educators & training institutions
- Biochar researchers & sustainability innovators
- Industry representatives from agriculture, construction & environmental sectors
- Regional stakeholders engaged in biochar policy & market development
By fostering cross-sectoral knowledge exchange, the training strengthens collaborative networks, opening doors for future projects and partnerships that advance biochar adoption.
